Job Description
The Medical Scribe is responsible for accurately and efficiently documenting provider-patient encounters in real-time during medical examinations. This role enhances the efficiency of the provider by handling documentation tasks and ensuring all medical records are completed promptly and accurately. The Medical Scribe does not provide direct patient care but works closely with healthcare providers to facilitate high-quality clinical documentation.
What You’ll Do - Accompany the provider during patient appointments to document the clinical encounter, including history of present illness, physical examination findings, assessments, and plans.
- Accurately and thoroughly document medical visits and procedures as they are being performed by the physician.
- Record details of patient history, medications, allergies, lab results, radiology findings, and other relevant information in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Assist with the completion of charts, including entering orders, prescriptions, and referrals as directed by the provider.
- Ensure documentation is timely, accurate, and meets quality and regulatory standards.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations at all times.
- Clarify instructions and information provided by the provider when necessary.
- Assist in tracking test results and follow-up appointments, as needed.
- Support communication between providers and other clinical team members to ensure coordinated patient care.

Qualifications - Candidates must be recent college graduates on a Pre-Med or Pre-Physician Assistant (Pre-PA) track, typically taking a gap year or two prior to enrolling in medical or PA school.
- Previous experience in a healthcare setting, especially as a scribe, or transcriptionist is strongly preferred.
- Excellent listening and typing skills with attention to detail.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
- Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) systems; experience with eClinicalWorks is a plus.
- Ability to multitask and manage time effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment.
- Professional demeanor and ability to maintain composure under pressure.
