Under the direction and supervision of the Center Manager, the Van Escort provides direct services to frail elders during transportation to and from the Center, their places of residence, appointments, day outings and any other necessary trips. Specific responsibilities include assisting participants to and from the center, their homes or medical appointments; assisting in carrying clients up or down stairs (client weight limit: 150 lbs. using a two people carry); providing behavioral/emotional supervision or support to participants; working closely with van drivers and assistants; assisting in the delivery of meals and medications; helping out in the center day care program with personal care and assistance; assisting with meal preparation and set up; assisting with special program/participant needs; reporting on status and progress of participants; fulfilling administrative requirements such as reporting and record keeping; working a flexible schedule including Saturdays; participating in training and orientation of others; promoting good public relations; providing weekend, a.m. or p.m. homecare coverage as needed; and performing other reasonable related jobs as assigned. Education required is a High School Diploma or GED. Background and experience include sincere interest in working with frail elders, ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team, knowledge of the community served, computer literacy preferred, bilingual Spanish, Russian and Chinese preferred, and willingness to work in a multilingual, multicultural environment. Physical requirements include ability to lift up to 150 lbs, reach, bend, walk, five finger manipulation, comprehend complex materials, and communicate clearly in English.
