The Holton-Arms School seeks a collaborative, flexible, and enthusiastic Theater Manager, Technical Director, and Production Technology/Theatrical Design Teacher to join our vibrant Fine and Performing Arts (FPA) Department for the 2025-26 school year. Position Overview The Holton-Arms School seeks a collaborative, flexible, and enthusiastic Theater Manager, Technical Director, and Production Technology/Theatrical Design Teacher to join our robust Fine and Performing Arts team. Holton offers opportunities in all aspects of performance and production. There are opportunities to act, direct, stage manage, and design for small and large-scale dramatic productions. There is equal respect for student contributions in all areas of theater; the technician is celebrated to the same degree as the actor. Curricular study in drama occurs both during the school day and after school through rehearsals and tech work. Students exploring acting through classes and performances learn to use their voices, bodies, and imagination to create clear characters and collaborate in the story-telling process. An emphasis is placed on ensemble, interaction, and expression. Students explore diverse dramatic literature and also participate in improvisation and devising work. Students involved in technical theater learn the basic skills, tools, and techniques for creating scenery, properties, lighting, sound, and costumes. An emphasis is placed on learning the safety standards and practices utilized within a working theater and scene shop as well as studying theatre vocabulary, backstage procedures and theater etiquette. Key Responsibilities This position has three overarching components and responsibilities: Theater Manager: Maintain and oversee all Fine and Performing Arts spaces and equipment. Oversee the safe and smooth operation of all performing arts spaces, including Lewis Theater, Beebe Black Box Theater, dressing rooms, green room, control booths, storage spaces, and costume & scene shops. Conduct routine safety inspections and system checks for sound, lighting, rigging, and staging equipment. Maintain, organize, and repair all technical equipment and ensure spaces are ready for use by student, faculty, and external partners. Manage inventory and recommend new purchases; coordinate with Facilities and IT as needed. Develop and monitor budget for operations and equipment of theaters and associated spaces in partnership with the Director of FPA and FPA Program Coordinator. Schedule events in performance spaces in coordination with the Director of FPA and other school departments. Arrange lighting plot and single microphone sound system for regular morning assemblies. Prepare performance spaces for Creative Summer programming, including inventory, documentation, and cleanliness. Maintain clean, organized construction and storage areas. Keep abreast of the latest trends in technical lighting, sound, and staging. Recommend purchases to the Director of FPA as appropriate. Theater Director: Managing technical and production elements for all performances and events. Serve as Technical Director for all school productions and major events (e.g., assemblies, concerts, open houses, Commencement). Design and oversee technical elements (scenery, lighting, sound, projection) in collaboration with event and ensemble directors. Supervise student and adult crew members during design and build processes. Provide technical support for events hosted by school departments or external groups. Instructional Responsibilities: Teach Middle and Upper School courses focused on technical theater and stagecraft. Teach Production Technology courses in the Dance & Drama Department Middle School Production Technology Upper School Performance Production Technology Advanced Production and Design Additional Responsibilities Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for students. Attend departmental and division meetings as needed. Participate in school life beyond the classroom (e.g., club sponsorship, chaperoning). Support and collaborate with colleagues and administrators across divisions. Qualifications and Experience Bachelor’s degree required; Bachelors in Fine Arts or equivalent experience strongly preferred. Professional experience as a Theater Manager and Technical Director. Demonstrated experience teaching production technology and design, and working with student ushers and crews. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and safely. Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Proficiency in relevant software, including Google Suite. Commitment to girls’ education and the mission of Holton-Arms School. Capacity to work evenings and weekends as required. Ability to lift heavy equipment, move scenery, and climb ladders. Coaching experience is a plus. Priority varsity coaching opportunities include Basketball, Soccer, and Lacrosse. Salary and Benefits Information The average salary range for this position is $70,000 to $100,000, the exact salary to be determined based on education and experience. Early career educators are initially compensated less than the listed salary range and highly experienced educators are compensated more than the listed salary range. Additional stipends are available for coaching, certain club sponsorship, and significant commitments outside of the classroom.
