Job Description

Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Safety Manager / Officer to join our team at a leading general contractor specializing in water and wastewater infrastructure projects across Massachusetts and Connecticut. While prior experience in water-related construction is preferred, we welcome candidates with a solid background in general construction who are passionate about safety and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the creation, implementation, and continuous improvement of the company’s Safety Management Plan.
  • Develop and execute health and safety strategies aligned with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Foster a strong safety culture that emphasizes engagement, compliance, and accountability across all levels of the organization.
  • Implement and oversee the Partners in Safety Program.
  • Lead a team of three (3) EHS Representatives, managing schedules, performance, coaching, and ongoing training.
  • Conduct audits and assessments to identify risks and improve safety procedures and systems.
  • Evaluate job sites, practices, and facilities to ensure they meet safety standards.
  • Design and deliver health & safety training programs for field and office personnel.
  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies, manage inspections, and ensure timely and accurate reporting.
  • Lead investigations into workplace incidents, analyze root causes, and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with the VP of Operations to align safety initiatives with company goals.
  • Serve as a safety liaison across departments, ensuring consistent and effective communication.
  • Manage internal and external resources to meet safety requirements on project sites.
  • Recommend preventive measures and improvements to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Maintain awareness of facility-specific safety concerns, including food safety where applicable.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Occupational Safety, Construction Management, or related field; or equivalent professional experience.
  • Proven experience in industrial or construction safety, preferably in water/wastewater infrastructure.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain all required safety certifications.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
