Job Summary The Interpreter/ Translation Services II, is responsible for oral interpretation and written translation for non-English speaking patients and their families, and healthcare team members. Acts as a cultural liaison between department staff and families, ensuring family centered care.
Pay Range Minimum $26.73 Midpoint $35.41 Maximum $44.10
Rate of pay is determined by various factors, including but not limited to knowledge, skills, competencies, experience, education, as well as position requirements.
Experience •Required: Minimum one (1) year of experience and knowledge in interpretation and translation of medical documents.
•Preferred: Previous healthcare interpretation and translation experience working in a hospital or clinical atmosphere, familiarity with hospital setting and operations is preferred. Experienced in customer service settings strongly preferred.
Education •Required: Passing of language proficiency examinations (written and oral). High School Diploma/ GED or equivalent.
•Preferred: Bachelor's degree in a related or healthcare field. Completion of medical interpreter certificate program and/or interpretation program/degree.
Training •Required: None required.
•Preferred: Formal training in interpretation and translation, completion of medical interpreter training, preferred.
Specialized Skills •Required: Knowledge of medical terminology, required. Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English and target language effectively at a level appropriate for the safe and effective performance of the job. Ability to provide sight translations and consecutive interpretation. Knowledge of cultural, social and linguistic communication factors, required. Knowledge of ethics, healthcare interpreter standards and role of the interpreter. Ability to type, must have computer & keyboard skills, ability to use word processing software, required. Ability to perform job responsibilities independently. Ability to promote a high level of professionalism, care and customer service, required. Cares with sensitivity and respect Customer service skills, cares with sensitivity and respect in verbal and non-verbal behaviors with patients, family members, coworkers, and other healthcare members/associates. Must be teamwork focused, job requires flexibility with schedule, be able to work weekends, makeshift changes to meet department business need. Ability to provide innovative, creative ideas and a positive attitude to unexpected changes in workload or assignment to achieve CHOC's mission and values.
•Preferred: Knowledge of procedures, general and specialty medical terms, preferred. Ability to provide simultaneous interpretation.
Licensure •Required:
•Preferred: Associate Healthcare Interpreter (AHI) or Certified Medical Interpreter (CMI).
