Responsible for supporting genetic counselors’ clinical activities (e.g., in the Maternal Fetal Medicine or Cancer Institute) and clinical research studies at Geisinger (e.g., the Clinical Genome Resource or MyCode). This position is intended to provide valuable experience for individuals who plan to apply to graduate genetic counseling programs or pursue a career in a related field of health. Assists genetic counselors to coordinate clinical activities, including coordination of genetic screening and testing, follow-up of genetic results, and a variety of other administrative tasks to support the clinic. Works with genetic counselors, researchers, and staff on current research projects. Tasks include: participant recruitment, data entry and data collection guided by written protocols, development of educational materials, performance of literature searches, and potential opportunities for qualitative interviews. Works under the supervision of the research and clinical personnel as required. Major duties include managing dissemination of genetic screening/testing results, collecting relevant clinical information, preparing documentation for genetic counseling use, assisting in patient scheduling, assisting principal investigators in day-to-day project activities, conducting data entry and updates for project monitoring, assisting with participant recruitment and follow-up, conducting literature searches and fact-finding research, and performing other duties as required. Specific duties include leading informed consent process for studies in genomic medicine and precision health, supporting a genetic counseling clinic by managing referrals and test results, and developing patient-friendly education materials. Requires demonstrated moderate to advanced computer skills, knowledge of basic research methodology preferred, ability to work independently, and strong interpersonal skills. Candidate must have a bachelor's degree with a GPA of 3.3 or better, strong interest in graduate training in Genetic Counseling or related health field, and preferred coursework in Biology, Psychology, and Statistics. Work is typically performed in office, clinical environment, or remote capacity with some travel within the system.
