The Athletic Trainer in the Cornell University Sports Medicine department evaluates, treats, coordinates and carries out the prescribed physical rehabilitation of athletes. The position is responsible for the compilation and maintenance of medical and statistical records, in compliance with HIPAA and other relevant regulations. As a crucial member of the department, this role requires a consistent need to study, evaluate and recommend new techniques and equipment in physical rehabilitation/training and therapy. The athletic trainer also assists in the daily management and operation of the athletic training room, provides sports coverage as assigned, and supervises athletic training students. The Sports Medicine unit is dedicated to protecting and enhancing the health, safety, and welfare of Cornell student-athletes by providing a safe environment and the best possible and most expedient healthcare utilizing the 6 domains of athletic training as established by the NATA: prevention; recognition, evaluation, and assessment; immediate care; treatment, rehabilitation, and reconditioning; organization and administration; and professional development and responsibility. The position requires managing multiple competing responsibilities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining professionalism, strong interpersonal skills to build relationships with colleagues, physicians, coaches, student-athletes, and parents, effective organization and communication skills, and the ability to respond to injuries and medical issues promptly and professionally. Required qualifications include a Master’s degree in Athletic Training with 1-2 years of experience or equivalent, Certified Athletic Trainer status in good standing with the Board of Certification, CPR and AED certification, and eligibility for New York State Licensure. Preferred qualifications include previous work experience as an Athletic Trainer with an NCAA Division I athletics program. The position is benefits eligible, ranging from 10-12 months per year, with salary adjusted accordingly if less than 12 months. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
