Job Description

St. Ambrose University is currently seeking a compassionate and motivated Academic and Career Planning Advisor to support our students in aligning their academic paths with their career aspirations. The Academic and Career Planning Advisor will provide comprehensive support to undergraduate students in academic advising, career exploration, goal setting, and decision-making. This role blends academic advising with career coaching to ensure students make informed, intentional choices throughout their college journey.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide holistic advising for a caseload of approximately 100-150 undergraduate students within designated disciplines.
  • Present to students and faculty/staff or parents about Academic and Career Planning (ACP) services.
  • Facilitate one-one appointments with students to:
  1. discuss academic needs and progress
  2. encourage career development through resume and cover letter reviews, mock interviews, job and internship search strategies, employer engagement, etc.
  3. Promote campus involvement and healthy habits that encourage academic success and personal and career growth.
  4. Prepare them for basic life skills and knowledge needed post-graduation.

Learn and maintain an understanding of university degree requirements, policies and procedures. Be the liaison and point of contact for designated academic programs and career industries and the Academic and Career Planning center to ensure information and updates are shared in a timely fashion between departments and employers. Provide outreach and partnership management for the Academic and Career Planning Center and campus community. Manage existing and new academic and campus partnerships Work collaboratively with the ACP team and other relevant SAU departments, such as admissions, student success center, academic departments, counseling, financial aid, etc. Maintain accurate student information in the student database.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Minimum of Bachelor's degree or 6years experience in area of responsibility or related area.
  • Possess a growth mindset and strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Self-motivated and able to work effectively in a team environment or independently

Preferred:

  • Prior experience in academic advising, career planning and development, enrollment, financial aid, or related role
  • General knowledge of the higher education industry
  • Attention to detail
  • Computer literate with an ability to learn proprietary software applications
  • Preferred Master's degree in Student Affairs, Social Work or related field with experience in higher education or other professional career helping guide others to achieve personal goals.
